Jonker Walks

It really did seem like just yesterday that my wife's family were visiting with us in Malaysia from Spain, but that was in September and Christmas is practically upon us. This trip down to Malacca marked the first time my wife's entire immediate family has been on a road trip in Malaysia together. It seemed like it was time for a walk down Jonker Road.

1. Local handicraft and bicycle rental.

2. Street vendor.

3. Interesting "chandelier".

Pasar Pagi

In Malaysia, it's more customary to have this sort of market at night, the pasar malam, owing to excessive heat during daylight hours in Malaysia, making night time more conducive to people coming out for a stroll to visit the market. In Spain on the other hand, they do it in the morning, every Thursday in the case of this town. Different places, same thing, same reason. Here though, it seems far more social than it does in Malaysia.

Vespa, Spain

Not much to say, but I spotted this Vespa parked outside this yellow ochre coloured building, and I thought it made a pretty picture.

Rate of Consumption

Holy smokes, check out how quickly this leg of ham is being consumed. Pretty fast considering that for half this time, Rosa and I have been away, leaving just Rosa's parents at home. All that cured ham in just 8 days!

Gravestones

A bit of a morbid image, I suppose (although you don't actually see the gravestones in this image), but I spotted this family run workshop (Lapidas Alfonso Y Garcia) that makes the most beautiful carved, Catholic gravestones. I'll see if they'll let me take some pictures of the actual gravestones themselves. And across the street, almost symbolic of the old being replaced by the new, some construction is underway. Just like the souls that are now moving on to the afterlife.

Beach... garbage?

"Keep our beach clean!" I just thought that this was such an ironic picture!

Back in Malacca again

We took a visiting friend down to Malacca today... where the written history of the Malay Peninsula all began. Or some such anyway.

Lunch in Kajang

This may well be the farthest we've ever driven for lunch. No idea how far we actually drove, but Kajang is usually considered well out of reach for a workday lunchtime. However, Kajang we went nevertheless. The usual green hues mixed with dirt roads, construction grime and industrial grim of the area we visited were rendered into an eerie beauty with infrared photography.

Huge trucks in the US

Huge trucks everywhere you go in the US. I've seen American movies, I've seen the TV series. I knew what to expect, but they still seem awfully big when you actually see them. They're just so huge.

We took Joshua, Ali and Baseer to the Selangor Pewter Factory today, where - as you can see - they clearly had a grand time!

Snapping Turtle

I actually took this photo almost a month ago, but forgot to phlog it.

On my way back from work one day, I saw this snapping turtle in the window display of a pet shop! Didn't know that you could keep one as, er... a pet? Is it even legal? No idea.
